Teak Cleopatra Sofa / Daybed Designed for Auping by A.R. Cordemeijer. The Netherlands, 1950s. Ref.: SS089
SOLD
The Cleopatra sofa daybed breaks with the design of all previous beds. A.R. (Dick) Cordemeijer is commissioned by Auping to design ‘something beautiful’. In the 1950s, the design of the bedroom changed. The elegant design of the Cleopatra fits in perfectly here. With the arrival of the Cleopatra you could speak of true industrial design, the first bed to be produced in series. The bed is made of steel with a wooden ornament. The Cleopatra was produced until 1982, which is a remarkable long time and reflects the great success of this bed. A mattress of 90 x 190 cm is suitable for this daybed / sofa with teak wooden bed ends on a black lacquered steel frame. This bed is in a very well preserved vintage condition with some minor wear consistent its age and use. A smaller white variant (84 x 197 cm) is also available in our collection.
